a little abstract tutorial

you might consider what would international students do when they are unable to fly back to their home countries during this covid19 pandemic. well, they could do several things to keep them entertained from the boredom of sheltering in place all day long. and so below is what i’m interested in doing when i was stuck in the US. let’s do it together guys!

today we will be making a very interesting abstract model from a very common material - cardboard.

first, you will need a piece of cardboard and scissors or something to cut. besides, if you want to decorate your model, you would need some crayons or anything that can make your model colorful :) now, let’s get started!

step 1: cut the cardboard into small pieces with different shapes and sizes (you can decide on your own)

step 2: go ahead and color them with either markers or watercolors. here, i use the “24 premier acrylic painting” set which you can easily find on amazon.com. i will put the link below for those who need it!

step 3: decorate them with any patterns. remember to be creative!

step 4: create some small slits/ ditches for every piece (at least 2 each) so that we can connect them together later

step 5: connect the pieces together just like you‘re playing with the legos ;)

step 6: continue connecting all the pieces and finish up your model. below is my final product!!!

p/s: you can make your model bigger by adding more pieces of cardboard.

reflection:

the idea of this abstract model stems from playing with legos. i made it abstract so that we can model it freely and creatively. abstract modeling has no limits and it is the best way to express yourself by creating your own unique work. the model above allows you to design your own patterns as well as structures that everyone can do at home. although the process is pretty easy and simple, you can make your product extraordinarily unique. if you are a fan of legos or puzzles, this would be a perfect alternative when you want to try something new. if not, it still worth trying and you will love it no matter what. i hope you enjoy this tutorial!

my background about arts

i never saw myself an artistic person as a kid, maybe because i didn’t have a good impression of art. my parents always encouraged me to express myself creatively through the arts so they forced me to
